What is the Manhattan Project?

The Manhattan Project was deemed a complete success! They successfully recovered the rocket using our GPA trackers to find their rocket safely landed with minimal damage/scratches to the body, suggesting it could be reflown if needed. Additionally, their autorotating deployable payload was a success with the GPS/radio beacon/Barbie staying completely intact upon landing. The apogee of the rocket was ​7248 feet.

Payload

• Contains a Chelsea doll in the deployable payload
• The payload deploys at the rocket's apogee
• Rotors are to slow the descent and generate lift
• Contains a radio beacon for recovery of the payload

Avionics

• Contains two flight computers
• The flight computers control reliable separation and parachute deployment at apogee
• A sled in the avionics bay carries the GPS transmitter for recovery

Recovery

• The recovery harness sits in one bay in the rocket structure
• Contains a drogue and main parachutes
• Recovery is deployed at apogee.
