The Manhattan Project

What is the Manhattan Project?

The Manhattan Project was a 2024-2025 Space Race Rocket. The Level 2 rocket was set to launch in Spring of 2025 but was delayed due to weather. The rocket will be launched in fall of 2025.

Flight Goals

  • Deployable payload
  • Payload with rotors to slow the descent
  • GPS transmitter for recovery

Payload

  • Contains a Chelsea doll in the deployable payload
  • The payload deploys at the rocket's apogee
  • Rotors are to slow the descent and generate lift
  • Contains a radio beacon for recovery of the payload

Avionics

  • Contains two flight computers
  • The flight computers control reliable separation and parachute deployment at apogee
  • A sled in the avionics bay carries the GPS transmitter for recovery

Recovery

  • The recovery harness sits in one bay in the rocket structure
  • Contains a drogue and main parachutes
  • Recovery is deployed at apogee.
