This is the list of current minor projects the RIT Launch Initiative will be undertaking during the 2019-2020 school year. This list may grow and change based on what people want to work on. Keep in mind you can propose your own minor project as well!
Ground Station 2.0
There's no point in building a rocket if we can't talk to it from back on the ground! This project will develop a portable ground station that will take data incoming from the rocket to display, and in future systems, control critical systems of the rocket or systems onboard.
Having our own launch rail would allow for the team to launch larger rockets even faster than ever before. This project will develop a portable launch rail system that we can drive out to launch sites. May include hydraulic lifts, avionics communications systems, etc.
The motor testing bunker on campus is great, but we should do our part to make it even better. What can we do to make it more usable? Potential upgrades to design include a camera monitoring system, warning lights/sirens, or a mission control center.
This project will take the infamous Nav-Ball from Kerbal Space Program and bring it to life! This is a great project if you want experience with CAD, mechatronics, and complex manufacturing.
The team has a lot of stuff, so much that we don't even know what we have! We need a system to organize and track everything we have to keep it clean and organized.
